Cindy Bourret is a licensed Psychologist who received her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Washington University in 1999.She completed her internship at the James A. Haley Veteran’s Hospital in Tampa, Florida where she specialized in treating the needs of veterans, medical patients, and nursing home residents. She completed her postdoctoral training at Johns Hopkins Hospital in their Behavioral Medicine Clinic and as a group therapist for their inpatient Chronic Pain Management Program.

Dr. Bourret currently works with adults of all ages who are struggling with mood and anxiety disorders, relationship issues, grief, and life transitions. She specializes in working with people suffering from acute and chronic medical conditions and conducts pre-surgical evaluations for bariatric surgery candidates.

She uses an eclectic style of therapy that has a strong cognitive-behavioral component.

I believe that one of the foundations of effective therapy is the presence of a warm, safe, and nurturing environment where clients can feel comfortable opening up and exploring areas of their lives that are painful or difficult to face.A trusting environment also allows clients to look more objectively at their strengths and weaknesses as they develop a more realistic view of their true selves and their true potentials. Many people who seek therapy do so because they feel “stuck” in one or more areas of their lives and see no realistic alternatives to their current situation.

I try to nurture an attitude of exploration that helps people open their minds to new alternatives and encourages growth and change. The focus of my work with people suffering from medical illnesses is to help them regain a sense of control, stability and meaning in their lives.
